Breakaway Swab
After sampling, snap near the tube opening.
150 mm long, with 4 mm medium and 5 mm large tips. Available as individually packaged pairs or bulk packs of 100; the shaft can be snapped near the tube opening after sampling.
DLY-TECS
Breakaway swabs with 4 mm medium and 5 mm large tips
Two tip sizes for different sampling areas.
The DLY-TECS Breakaway Swab has an illustrated overall length of 150 mm and is available with a 4 mm medium tip or 5 mm large tip. The medium tip reaches narrow gaps; the large tip suits sampling larger areas of evidence items.
4 mm medium tip
For sampling narrow gaps
5 mm large tip
For sampling larger evidence areas
SNAP & TRANSFER
Hold the tube steady. Snap near the opening.
After sampling, place the head inside a centrifuge or collection tube and snap the shaft near the opening to complete transfer. The readily breakable material removes the need for scissors at this step and lets the operator control the length left inside the tube.
- Choose the 4 mm medium tip or 5 mm large tip for the sampling area and collect the sample.
- Place the swab head inside the collection or centrifuge tube and hold the tube steady.
- Snap the shaft near the opening, controlling the length left inside the tube.
- Leave the head in the tube to complete the transfer; this snapping step does not require scissors.
Packaging for the scene or laboratory batches.
Individually packaged pairs
2 swabs/pack; 100 packs/bundle
Bulk pack of 100

Packaging and contents illustrations are not shown at a common physical scale.
Individually packaged pairs: 2 swabs per pack and 100 packs per bundle, for easy carrying and single-use sampling at the scene.
Bulk packs: 100 swabs per pack, for batch sampling in the laboratory.
Both packaging options offer 4 mm medium-tip and 5 mm large-tip versions. The loose-swab view illustrates the contents.
From cutting to snapping: improving a repeated action
Putting a used swab head into a centrifuge tube often meant reaching for scissors. After cutting off each swab head, the scissors had to be decontaminated before being used on the next sample. With swabs used every day, these steps were repeated again and again.
We thought: if the swab head could be snapped off directly inside the tube, scissors would no longer be needed.
We found a suitable material that breaks readily. After sampling, place the head inside the tube and snap the shaft to complete the transfer. At this step, the scissors can finally be put down.
From cutting to snapping, only one action has changed. But forensic practitioners do it every day, and we are willing to put more thought into small things like this, so a tool they use so often feels a little easier in their hands.
