Thin-membrane filtration. Securely welded.
The welding process and thin membrane are designed to combine sealing during temperature-controlled lysis with the subsequent filtration step. The membrane separates liquid from residual substrate to support the sample-preparation workflow.
Ring-and-point support. All-round buffer contact.
The retaining ring secures the membrane and works with four support points to hold up the swab head. This exposes more of the head to lysis buffer for thorough sample lysis.
An idea from the laboratory bench
During a conversation, a customer described a difficulty in sample preparation: repeatedly transferring the supernatant to separate the liquid from residual sample substrate. Each transfer meant keeping debris out while retaining as much as possible of an already limited sample.
The customer wondered whether this step could be simpler. We thought it was worth trying and began developing a substrate separation filter.
That trial took five years. The product finally took shape, but scaling up production became another hurdle. Crossing it took another three years. From the first idea to delivery, eight years had passed.
The problems changed over those years, but we kept sight of why we started: if we could spare a customer one repeated step, it was worth taking an extra step ourselves.
The idea that came from the laboratory bench finally returned to it.
